Backstory/Public Knowledge about them
What are they up to nowadays
When he isn't out on an adventure he tends to do some odd jobs here and there for extra gil, relax with some decent food, or study about the various kinds of magic out there.
Those who are in the advenuring circles would likely have seen Serid over the years, a young spellsword doing all he can to make gil, no matter if the job was big or small. He has done several notable things over the years and adventured with plenty of different groups before, perhaps he has joined your character before.
To those who spend time in the Thaumaturge's Guild, the halfbreed visits there every now and then to do some odd jobs and read through various texts about magic and monsters.
And to those who pays attention to Ul'dahs many refugees, Serid is part of a village who were forced to camp out at the walls. They're a group that stuck together through thick and thin and after several years of pooling their money together they have a small run-down warehouse that they have converted into a shared home.

Serid grew up in a small village that bordered Gridania and Thanalan, he lived a decent life there and learnt the basics of both conjury and thaumaturgy from his mother and father, though he could only use one at a time.
Unfortunately for him, not everything can last forever and though the village wasn't directly harmed by the calamity nearby beast tribes were. In their desperation the beast tribes attacked the village, forcing them to evacuate while a group of people remained to stall the marauding beastmen, including Serid's parents.
With nothing but the clothes on their backs the remaining villagers fled south to Ul'dah...only to become part of the many refugees there. Their bonds remained and the village stuck together as they did all they could to survive and help their family and neighbours along with them.
In order to get money Serid was one of several to go out and become adventurers, doing small protection jobs and slowly working his up to bigger and more profitable jobs. While some of his friends and companions got injured or worse the spellsword was thankfully spared any serious harm thanks to a combination of luck and skill.
